Which solar control film to choose? Silver, Vista, Chrome, Titane or Spectra

Choosing a solar control film may seem complicated at first, as there are many different tints, strengths and technical solutions. In fact, the right choice always starts with one simple question: what do we want to achieve for the glass surface?

Is the goal to reduce room overheating? Do we want more privacy? Do we want to protect the interior from UV radiation? Or is it important that the building's appearance becomes more modern and uniform?

Mirlex's Solar Screen solar control film range includes over 200 different solutions, but this time we look more closely at five popular types: Silver, Vista, Chrome, Titane and Spectra.

Why install solar control film at all?

Solar control film helps make rooms significantly more comfortable in summer. Glass surfaces let in a lot of solar heat and light, which can quickly make offices, classrooms, homes or commercial spaces with display windows uncomfortably hot.

A correctly chosen film helps reduce excess heat, protect the interior from UV radiation, reduce glare, improve privacy, make glass surfaces more stylish from outside and reduce the load on air conditioners.

Silver — a classic and effective choice

Silver solar control film is a good choice when strong solar protection and a clearly visible reflective effect are desired. Silver-type films give the glass a silver appearance and effectively reduce both heat and glare.

This type of film suits large glass surfaces, schools, offices, museums and other buildings where improving the indoor climate while adding privacy is important. We have installed Silver solutions on many educational and commercial buildings.

Vista — when we want to preserve the most natural view

Vista solar control film suits situations where we want to reduce the sun's effect while preserving the most natural and modest appearance of the glass surface. Vista is a spectrally selective film that lets in more natural light than heat.

Vista is a good choice for private homes, offices and sites where too strong a reflection may not be desired, but a more comfortable indoor climate and UV protection are still important.

Chrome — modern with a strong architectural effect

Chrome solar control film gives the glass a more modern and deeper tone. It suits modern buildings, large glass facades and private homes where the glass surface is an important part of the architecture.

In addition to solar protection, Chrome helps give the building a darker, more uniform and exclusive appearance. It is one of our most used solutions.

Titane — an elegant and balanced solution

Titane solar control film suits those looking for an elegant, slightly more technical and architectural solution. Titane gives the glass a solid appearance while helping reduce the sun's effect on rooms.

It is a good choice for private homes, villas, office buildings and sites where both indoor climate and the building's appearance matter.

Spectra — when light, view and a discreet result matter

Spectra solar control film suits well when we want solar protection but don't want to change the glass appearance too strongly. It is a good choice for urban buildings, offices and sites where preserving a clean and representative glass surface is important.

Spectra-type film is a suitable solution in situations where the glass surface must remain visually calm but the room's indoor climate still needs improvement.

How to choose the right film?

Choosing the right solar control film depends on several factors: which direction the glass faces, how much sun enters the rooms, whether the goal is heat reduction or privacy, what appearance is desired for the building, and the glass type. Read more in our practical guide to choosing a film.
