When the summer sun becomes more of an enemy than a friend through your window, it's time to think about extra protection. Here are five clear signs that your home windows need solar control film — and what to do about each one.
1. Room temperature rises quickly
If your home turns into a sauna by midday on a sunny day, the glass is letting in excess heat. An ordinary window doesn't reflect solar radiation back but lets it through, where it accumulates in the room.
This isn't just uncomfortable but also costly — cooling devices run longer and consume more energy. Solar control film reflects a significant part of the radiation before it reaches the room, helping keep the indoor temperature more stable.
2. Furniture and interior have faded
If your sofa, curtains or parquet have lost colour or become patchy, UV radiation is to blame. Ordinary glass doesn't stop harmful UV rays — fabrics fade, wood becomes brittle, plastic yellows. The damage is permanent and can't be fixed by polishing or washing.
Films with UV protection block up to 99% of UV radiation, so the interior retains its original appearance much longer.
3. You feel uncomfortable in the sun
If you constantly have to move the curtains so the sun doesn't shine in your eyes or on the screen, the light level isn't under control. Harsh light tires the eyes, creates screen glare and disrupts concentration.
Solar control films diffuse and soften the light without darkening the room — natural light and an open view are preserved, without glare.
4. The air conditioner is overloaded
If the air conditioner runs all day and bills grow, the problem may not be the device but the windows. Ordinary glass lets heat into the room, which the air conditioner must constantly compensate for.
The film reduces the load on cooling devices — resulting in lower energy consumption, less noise and a longer device lifespan.
5. Neighbours see too much
If passers-by or residents of the building opposite can see into the room too easily, it's a privacy issue. Curtains darken the room and block the light.
Films with a reflective surface solve this more elegantly: during the day you see out, but no one sees in. The windows stay uncovered, light and view are preserved.
The solution is simpler than you think
Installing solar control film is quick, affordable and requires no renovation. We have installed these solutions in hundreds of homes and buildings.
